Dance the boring days away
/The Canaan Team have now been working from home for almost 3 weeks, and I am not going to lie — we miss seeing the girls we normally meet at Lunch Clubs and After School Clubs. It is boring without them, to put it bluntly. Then again perhaps we’re all a little bored in these days of lockdown. Whilst we encourage everyone to stay home during this time, we also encourage fun and who said you can’t have fun at home? I am convinced that dancing is the answer to our boredom.
A painter I follow on Instagram dances every time she gets a creative block, so I decided I will do the same every time I feel bored. Almost every day I put my headphones in my ears, my phone in my back-pocket and put on a crackin’ playlist. As the music fills my mind I let my arms wave around, my knees bend up and down and my hips swing from side to side. Full disclosure: I am not a dancer… But that doesn’t matter! Let the music move your arms and feet and let go. Try making up your own dance — it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be fun. I promise you, it is better than staring at a wall.
When I was younger I always found dance parties hard, because I felt like an elephant on the dance floor. Have you ever seen an elephant dance? Well, I’ll tell you, it is not a pretty sight. Every time the music played I got drawn to the wall like a magnet, trying to escape the spotlight. It wasn’t until I got older that I realised it was only my own enjoyment that really mattered. During this time in lockdown, not many people will see your dance moves anyway. So what do you have to lose? Your pride? Certainly not! And just remember, somewhere in London, I am dancing with you, flapping my arms around, trying to find that hidden rhythm in my bones.
To get you started I have made you a quirky little playlist (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2a2Ak8919iyUZdAaSi4W8F?si=F4yj-ge5SXGTwjZ5za13XA)
